Just picked up my new 2011 Super Graphite ESP 800 LE CREW. Love the power and ride BUT it cuts out at 48 mph. Does anybody know how to up it?
I checked with my dealer and they said I could purchase a pkg with a different computer exhaust and air filter and would only gain abot 2-3 horse and no top speed, i am only looking to get up around 55mph. :driving

maybe by removing the restrictor plate may give you some more top-end. i have removed mine, but haven't tested it for top-end speed dunno

what do you mean ("cuts out.") does it buck, or just run out of steam? doug

I have a 2010 800 crew & I removed the restrictor plate. It did not add any top end speed, just more low end power & getting to top end faster. I think the speed limter is computer controlled. I can however get mine to 50 mph, when I reach the speed limter you can feel the engine start surging, then if you back off the throttle just enough to stop it from surging it will pick up just a little bit more speed.

Also have a new 11 crew, is the restrictor in the air intake? Does anyone know why the crews are 40hp and the shorties are 50 hp on the 11s?

I have read on other forums that there is an inside spacer that can be taken out the clutch to obtain more speed.... Not sure though, haven't done it.

The 2011 Crew has the top speed at 48-49 mph. Once you hit this the limiter kicks in and you will not go faster: ECU shuts off the gas. The only way around is to get a computer to bypass the governing.
There is a restrictor plate between the motor and air filter box. It look like a small plastic donut. If you remove, hang onto it. Easy mod and you will het more HP especially torque but will not increase top speed. I would recommend a clutch kit and Dayco XTX belt. Talk to Rex at Atv-UTVTech.com; he ser me up and is very knowledgable. You will be amazed in the two simple and inexpensive mods what it does for your vehicles.
Next step you have two options. Buy a new computer that will still increase the gas or a more possible sane option is to have your dealer reprogram your ECU with the timing of a ranger xp and you will have more than 10 hp extra plus a higher mph than the stock crew.

Check with them. There is all sorts of upgrades including a programable ecu, clutch kits, turbos, etc. It's not the cheapest fix to boosting speeds but it might be a more solid solution to look towards.

Do ou know if I take a shim out of the secondary clutch will that help the top speed?????

No, there is a rev limiter programed in the ecu that that keeps the rpms to a point

That will do nothing. The 800 XP and the Crew are limited the same. They share the same ECU PN# 4012838
Have you removed the restrictor??

Won't removing the restrictor cause a lean condition? Will the ECU compensate for that? Do the Rangers have a MAF sensor?
